Movies I Can't Resist on Television

If any of you out there have a sleeping problem (I'm convinced I go through spurts of insomnia) then perhaps you remedy that the same way I do: by watching lots of bad late night action film on TV. These usually end up being the same movies over and over, and I've come to realize that I have a certain "go-to" set of movies, that whenever they're on TV, I get sucked into watching. Now, this happens just as frequently with legitimate movies, but more often than not, when I'm at home decompressing after work, I'll find myself looking for the lamest action movie on TV. Case in point: late last night I couldn't sleep, I turn on the TV and had a choice between Tango & Cash or Showdown in Little Tokyo. Decisions, decisions. One one hand Tango & Cash is Tango & Cash, but on the other Showdown in Little Tokyo has Dolph Lundgren, and it was directed by Mark Lester, the brilliant mind who gave us Commando. More thoughts on why I chose what I chose after the jump, with a clip you won't want to miss...

Anyway, I went with Tango & Cash, even if I have seen it about ten times already, because it has all the cliches of 80's buddy cop films...and Jack Palance as the villain. How can one go wrong there? Oh, plus it has this as its opening:

Man I love Stallone's STIFF line reads, the generic 80's cop dialogue ("I want your badge!", "You're out of your jurisdiction!") and the even more generic 80's cop moments like tasting the cocaine to see if it's real. Also, the line about Rambo is brilliant.

So, this got me thinking about bad action movies that I always watch on TV, no matter how many time I've seen them or how familiar I am with the film's rhythms. Once you see the movies on this list you may think to yourself: "but Kevin, life is too short to be wasting your time watching THOSE movies over and over, watch something better." But, the truth is I don't watch TV all that much, I still watch re-runs of "Seinfeld" and "The Simpson's" and some DVD episodes of "The West Wing" and "Deadwood", but I never really got into TV, and so my way of decompressing or "trash" TV is to watch 30 minutes here, 20 minutes there of the following movies (converted to a top 5 list for convenience):

1. The Rock - no matter how much I hate Michael Bay I have to hand it to him...this movie is an amazing exercise in the action genre. My fiance can attest to the fact that whenever this is on TV (which is a lot) I will always stop the channel surfing and take a nostalgia trip to when I was in 10th grade when The Rock came out. In fact, she's probably seen the film in its entirety, just out of order. But still, I can quote this movie pretty much word for word when I'm watching it -- and yes, I know how sad and pathetic that it.

2. Robocop - Another movie that is on free TV and IFC all the time. I never get tired of this one, either. Especially the ED-209 scene and the Benny Hill parody with the guy that says "I'll buy that for a dollar!" Plus the film is just a masterpiece of violence and has the greatest villain in 80's action cinema: Clarence Boddicker.

3. Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 - Nothing brings me more joy than watching Danny Glover and Mel Gibson play their most famous movie roles to 80's action perfection. These are the epitome of the action film in the 80's: their well acted, well crafted, and never grow tiresome. The first film has amazing scene after amazing scene, in fact you kind of feel like the movie gives you the best value for your time (when it comes to action films)...plus it has Garey Busey as the psychotic (shock!) mercenary Mr. Joshua. Also, Danny Glover's favorite line "go spit!" The second film, amazingly, is just as good as the first one. It's one of the rare occurrences where the films sequel either surpasses or lives up to the original (T2, Spider-Man 2, and Gremlins 2 are the only other sequels I can think of off the top of my head that do this) as it matches the originals energy. Plus Joe Pesci getting "effed" in the drive-thru and a house on stilts -- can't go wrong there.

4. Cliffhanger - Say what you want about Sly and director Renny Harlin (the fact that they don't have the greatest resumes is certainly true), but this early '90's action film is pretty spectacular, and always catches my attention when it's on TV. It has one of the most intense (I'm being serious, because I'm afraid of heights) opening sequences I've seen in any action movie. Plus, it has Michael Rooker in it, and John Lithgow as the villain. It's just your classic Die Hard formula, only on a mountain!

5. Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Another film that I can quote all the way through when I watch it. I never get tired of this movie, and surprisingly, the effects still hold up, and it serves as a reminder how brilliant James Cameron was at making intense action pictures. Totally different than the first Terminator, the sequel upped the ante big time and cam off more an all-out action film than a sci-fi/horror film. Robert Patrick made a name for himself as T1000, the creepy evil terminator, and who can forget Linda Hamilton looking all scary throughout the movie, ready to shoot anything metallic? It's the perfect example of a movie, that no matter when I happen upon it, will always suck me in because it was such a huge part of my childhood. This was one of the first movies I watched religiously so that I could know everything about it.

Anyway -- there are of course really good movies I choose to watch multiple times on TV (and to be truthful some of those action films above are some of the most brilliant of their genre) or on DVD. Whenever I see 8 1/2 or Fargo or Quiz Show, I immediately set the remote down and just drink in familiar scene after familiar scene, because there's just something comforting about the familiarity I have with those movies. And the same goes for the list above: those films calm me down at night or just put a smile on my face that few things can. I have an affinity for watching bad action films because that's what I grew up with. Sadly, I could probably tell you everything that happened in Van Damme's Double Impact or Seagal's Out for Justice (another movie I stop for a lot when it's on TV), because I prefer bad action films in order to help me decompress, or simply entertain me in my sleep deprived state when I'm having a fit of insomnia.

So, my question to all of you: what movies do you have trouble resisting whenever they're on TV? They can be good movies or "bad" movies like my list above. I'm just curious to see what some of your steady, fall-back films are when you've had a rough day or just need to decompress...you're flippin' through the channels, what is it that you stop on?

Shi(v)a 'Two Pyramids' LeBouf...seriously? NO no no, but Sirusly!

Shi(v)a LaBeouf Seeing/C-Ing Red through his binoculars on the poster for "Disturbia".
Biblically the Red Sea/C was parted as portal for Moses and the Jews by God and thus resonates the StarG8 (doorway of Kosmic Konsciousness).
The C shape in general evokes an opened doorway, cupped vessel or cracked egg etc.
Shi(v)a runs as the giant 'Tinman' Eye/I - symbol of unified KKonsciousness - looms overhead in "Transformers".
The Eye/I hovering above is a powerful and common image of physical and spiritual alignment.
He does allot more running as noted by the poster above, playing off famous tag line and personal blog title "Run_ Don't Walk From "THE BLOB!"", on the "Eagle Eye" poster.
Again the Eye/I of Self is evoked by this title as well as the Egyptian bird deity Horus.
Pyramids, not entirely dissimilar from this Peruvian one on the "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" are totally in keeping with the resonance of such things as All Seeing Eyes and bird deities..
Secret societies and fraternal orders do not invent or control symbols associated to Kosmic Konsciousness.
They can, like movies, entrain with images and themes that resonate Being beyond form but it is always Being doing the pushing.
God/SpiriT - the eternal and infinite WE/ME beyond thought and form - always leads the show.
Shi(v)a LeBeouf repeats this Pyramid trick, this time with the O.G. Great Pyramid in the new "Transformers Revenge of the Fallen".

2 Pyramids in a short career, not bad.

Richard: In the role of MuTT we find Shi(v)a LaBeouf resonating with the Dog:

SHIA LeBoeuf resonates with SHIVA, and the Blue-skinned 'Pure One' represented the Mutt-Star Sirius.

Movie Trivia: Young Henry Jones Jr. didn't like the name Henry so opted instead to take on the name of his pet Dog: Indiana.

The Dog Indy and his Sun/Son Mutt both resonate Sirius. The Egyptian heiroglyph for Isis/Sothis/Sirius features a Pentagram and Pyramid.

Father Indy and Son Shi(v)a enter the Pyramid of the Plumed Serpent Quetzalcóatl (above) in order to open the Starg8 of Kosmic Konsciousness via the Crystal Skull.

Britannica Encyclopedia: 'Quetzalcóatl was identified with the planet Venus and as the morning and evening star, Quetzalcóatl was the symbol of death and resurrection. With his companion Xolotl, a dog-headed god, he was said to have descended to the underground hell of Mictlan to gather the bones of the ancient dead. Those bones he anointed with his own blood, giving birth to the men.'

So we have Quetzalcóatl the Winged Serpent (creator of Mankind) and his companion/twin Xolotl who had the head of a Dog:

So who/what would his Dog-headed companion/twin represent? Could it be a reference to Quetzalcóatls binary companion, dare I say it: the Dog-Star? This could help explain the Mutt and Indy/Dog references.

When Mutt, Indy, and Mary (the Holy Trinity) enter Quetzalcoatls pyramid they descend the spiral Ladder/Helix in order to activate the StarG8.

To get from SHIA to SHIVA you need to add a V, and the V points DOWN:

The StarG8 is opened when the pair of Dogs (Mutt & Indy) descend the Ladder. In Transformers we find Shi(v)a with the number 33 on his back connecting this descent with the 33 vertebrae of the spinal column:

Could energy from the Dog-Star floW down the spine in order to open the inner StarG8? Could this be the catalyst which TRANSFORMS us?

On the Freemasonic Tracing Board we find the Sun on the left, the Pleiades on the right surrounding the Moon, and we find the 7 pointed star at the top of the Ladder/Stairway:

If we look at another version we find the G-Star (or 7-Star) between the Pillars of Duality:

The large Star above reminds me of the big blue Sirius A, and the smaller one would therefore represent the tiny Sirius B which is roughly the same size as the Earth:

In Transformers we find Mutt (the Sun of the Dog/Indy) wearing the G-Star:

Notice above that the G in this instance represents the Eye at the top of the Pyramid, or Eagle Eye. The Eagle Eyed Horus was of course the Son/Sun of Isis/Sothis/Sirius.

We find further canine resonance in Transofrmers thanks to his Dog Mojo, and his Phoenix resonating love interest Megan FOX.

Here we find Shi(v)a interacting with PAN, the Wild One/Beast, and Shiva (Sirius) was described in the Rig Veda as "fierce like a formidable wild beast".

PAN = 77 = OZ

Notice above that it's the Dog and the Tinman who interact with the letters OZ/PAN. Brings to mind Shi(v)a's role in the Jupiter/Tinman resonating 'Eye, Robot'.

Finally, in the movie Contstantine we find Shi(v)a starring alongside Keanu Reeves/John Constantine/JC. Keanu Reeves is bass guitarist for the band 'Dog-Star' giving Neo (the One) strong resonance with the Mutt-Star.

In the movie we find JC reading a secret 'Black Bible' which depicts a White Sun (our Sun?) with a Black circular stain:

Heck, we even find a pair of Solar Crosses/Suns (XX) in the form of two vials of Holy Water:

Maybe I'm taking this all too seriously : )
Will Morgan;

Shi(v)a also has a little recognized roll in I Robot which also starred Sync regular WiLL Smith. This is one of the dou of I AM movies that Smith did.... I AM being a recognition of self... See The Patternist for more.
Smith is greeted in the beginning of this flick by a Fed EX delivery robot sporting the number 42 on it's head. The Fed Ex symbol is one of the most well designed graphics for those who understand the modern icon(not saying I'm one of those people).... The three rules taught in major art colleges are Progression, Alternation, and Repetition.
The Repetition is in the Font. The Font changes color but is repeated in the words that have no space between them to distinguish. Your eyes alter the image if you Alternate the negative space between the E and X into an arrow. The arrow is a sign of progression and is the excitement of logo. Most Graffiti in primitive urban spray can art have words that feature arrows.... It's an attractive design even if you don't consciously see it. The robot above has this progression pointing to the X on his Blue chest. It marks the space where the spiritual heart would lie in most religious art. X marks the spot.
Also of importance is the fact that the Robot is a Tin Man motif made extremely sound by the 42 as his designation. The 42 has be associated to the astrological symbol of Jupiter, as well as the alchemical symbol of tin, by the likes of Jim Sanders and Jake Kotze. The Tin man in the picture above is actually showing a multiple twisted form of interpretation. Basically it is symbolising the industrial heartless man of OZ and the Alchemical Tin Man.

The main tin man problem is in the form of a physcotic mega computer reminiscent of Hal 9000 called VIKI resonating the V or roman numeral for 5. She controls the newest and freely distriputed model of the NS-5. Falling in nicely with all other major Tin Men in pop culture named 5.

Number Five or Johnny 5. WaLL-E.... E is the 5th latter in the English Alpha-Beth.... Johnny-5, Wall-5.

This is a subconscious designation of the newest form of material animation, akin to the 5th sepheroth of the Kabalistic tree of life... In a tree of 10 stages the 5th is the mid point between total spirit and total material. The red dot lies in the chest a perfect fit for the heartless tin man.

Also of note in the NS-5 is that N is the 14th letter in the Alpha-Beth and S the 19th. 14+19=33..... There are 33 vertebrae in the Spinal Cord, 33 degrees in Freemasonry, and 33 years of Christ.
Shia makes his entrance in the movie along side WiLL in front of a dragon resonating the Dragon Axis in which we are now in the middle. This is the time period from around 1997 and ending in 2012 in which our sun aligns with Galactic Center.
Soon after he is seen in frame of a shit load of TT's! Shiva drinks from the nipple of the universe.
However he dose not floW as of yet.... He tosses a Basketball at Smith. Smith actually sharing the name of the inventor of Basketball but also notable is that B-Ball as it were is the latest incarnation of the Mayan Ball Game of Galactic Alignment, as well as resonating Weaving by the word Basket. Jokes on Shia not in Alignment yet.
Shiva does however align with the Mayan Galactic Center prophecies in Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.... As discussed above he plays MuTT WiLL I Am seen below saving his Father or the Holy Spirit IN DIANA Jones with a Serpent Rope.
In the Mayan belief The savior God will come from the Sky on a Serpent Rope(Worm Hole) from the Sky's.
The Movie also meshes the Egyptian ritual of Mummification with the Peruvian Pyramids and...
Aliens... Both of which where mummified for reasons that slip under most peoples radar. The chevrons on the soldiers uniforms invoke an A or Arrow pointing towards Ascension. To Pentagons shine hinting at a double star as dose the X on the Sarcophagus(Rik Clay said Planet X). Mummys like the Transformer's Tin Men and the Cyborg WiLL Smith deal with the preservation of the Material body after the Spirit leaves.
Shiva as the ancient Deity is scene often under the foot of Kali and with a Crescent on his head like Shia above.... Kali is a symbol of Consciousness "Losing it's head" to balance the interaction of Spirit and Body. Intangible and Tangible are abstract ideas of the same relation as Spirit and Body as one is reliante of the other.
In I Robot the Spirit is invoked again as WiLL is lead through the investigation by a holographic box, green in hue, which resonates with Osiris the green lord of the dead as well as the Emerald City AKA the land of the dead.
The holographic Ghost of his friend pass on forgotten information about his death that Smith previously would not have had. In Myth the motif of the dead helping the living is vibrant think Hamlet, Christ, Obi Wan Kenobi. Also notable is that the attention is in the color purple. This entrains with the Purple Jesus seeing as the Spirit talks to the living after it's body has passed.
This is accentuated by the Purple glow that is swept over the dead man as the investigation continues.
To talk to the dead Smith would have to be a saint and this is affirmed by the birdcage halo behind his head in the scene above.
He shows of his Vintage Chuck Taylors AKA ALLStars.
The boot of shoe with stars underfoot align with the 13th zodiacal sign the snake handler whose foot lies on Galactic Center.
As our Solar System speeds towards Alignment with Galactic Center so to do the Stars on Celluloid up on the silver screen Align with them.... And so do our entire Cellular Body's.... As above so below. All Resonates in accordance..... Always... And always has. Your just starting to notice.
Our New model of Alchemical Body's are delivered on 11:11 universal time.
The number 202 seen in the top right of the placard can be shortened to 22 which is 11+11 or 11Times 2.
He is meet by the Purple Jesus again at 11:11 to discuss the evolution of the Tin Man race.
He was lead to 11:11 by the Hermetic Drawing(writing with both hands) as the Robot Sunny associating a Sun Deity or the Son of God as a Robot explains to him his Phrophetic Dream.
WiLL is meet with two X's like Shiva's other partner Constatine..... Here is on as WiLL looks over the Abyss.... (Jump WiLL Jump).
WiLL seen here with Martini Glass behind his head has Two X's from the Dos Equis sign looking on. His friend sits down and explains that the whole mystery stinks of the Wolf Man as the sign reflects in the MiRRor. WiLL corrects him that he means Frankenstein the story where a man is made by Technology and Not a FloWing Man of Hermes' Kosmic Konciousness.
And X's again as our saint saves Shi(v)a.
Gimme Five!
